Greetings to the parents of team Eastern Door and the North (EDN) athletes,
Team Eastern Door and the North (EDN) is pleased to welcome your child to our team at the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) to be held in Toronto in 2017. These Games will bring together over 5,000 Aboriginal youth who will be able to distinguish themselves in the 14 traditional and modern disciplines that will be represented. A number of excellent athletes competed at the selection camps and your child can be proud to have been chosen from among them. He or she will have an exceptional opportunity to distinguish themselves and be part of an international sporting event. Team EDN will be composed of nearly 390 participants (athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, managers and mission staff).
Here is some information you need to know about your child’s participation in the next NAIG.
All team athletes were required to pay a registration fee of $220 before December 15, 2016 to participate in the Games. This payment covers accommodation, three meals a day and transportation for the duration of the Games. Roundtrip transportation to Toronto for team EDN members from Montréal and Québec City is also planned through a financial contribution from Health Canada and the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur. In addition to the registration fees, additional costs must be anticipated for training, purchasing sports uniforms, pocket money, etc. As each team has different needs depending on the coach’s program, we invite you to contact the coach or manager of your team for more details on next steps and costs. You can find the coordinates of the coaches at the following link: http://pen-edn.com/disciplines-sportives-pen-edn/
The NAIG will be held in the City of Toronto, the Hamilton area and the Six Nations of the Grand River community from July 16-23, 2017. The athletes will depart on July 15, 2017 and return on July 23, 2017.
Information about hosting our team is not yet available. We know that four villages will welcome participants: York University, Humber College, McMaster University and Durham College. The Host Society will determine the location of each team, including team EDN, shortly. All athletes will be required to remain with other team members and coaches throughout the duration of the Games.
If you would like to attend, please visit our website; we will be adding information about spectator accommodation as soon as this information becomes available. In the meantime, if you would like more information about the NAIG and the various venues, you can consult the official NAIG website by clicking on the following link: http://naig2017.to/
To ensure the safety of our youth, coaches (and managers) as well as mission personnel, the FNQLHSSC will take out travel insurance covering, among other things, medical expenses for injuries or illnesses occurring during the stay in Toronto. Further information on this subject will be available shortly.
We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of your young athletes to be part of our team. We know that they could not have achieved this goal without your constant support. We wish you a very happy holiday season and an excellent year in 2017!
