Team EDN pins have arrived. Athletes will soon receive two sets of pins to exchange with athletes from other delegations at the NAIG next July.
Pins have a special place in sports gatherings, as they help to initiate discussion between young people, create new bonds and discover the story behind each pin. For many, the aim is to collect as many pins as possible from each delegation and build up a collection. Most athletes proudly display their pins on the lanyard of their roundel or on any other souvenir.
We’ve also included sweetgrass on one of our pins, to promote First Nations culture and thank the Mi’kmaq nation for hosting the NAIG. This sacred plant has been used since time immemorial for basket-making, healing and cleansing.
The First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission would also like to pay tribute to Dave Canadian, a committed Mohawk from Kahnawake who has devoted much of his life to young athletes in his community and beyond. We can therefore find his initials (DC) on one of our pins and on the coat of every member of Team EDN. Mr. Canadian has been present at nine editions of the NAIG, since its creation. He has always been dedicated in his various roles, whether as coach, chef de mission or supporter of Team EDN. Niá:wen Dave Canadian!
